Christine McGuire is a former 30-year prosecutor, and has been in private criminal defense and Title IX advisory practice for the past 10 years. Christine graduated with a Juris Doctor degree from Southwestern Law School in 1977 and was admitted to the State Bar that same year. In 2003, She earned her LLM in Intellectual Property from Santa Clara University School of Law. Christine began her prosecutorial career in Northern California in 1980, litigating misdemeanors and serious felonies including People v Hooker, a sexual enslavement case. In 1986 Christine was recruited by the Santa Cruz County District Attorney's office where she spent 24 years prosecuting most every kind of serious criminal cases including domestic violence, sexual assault and homicide. Since 2010, Christine has represented and defended clients charged with a range of criminal offenses including DUI, domestic violence, sexual assault, theft, embezzlement, manslaughter, homicide and other Penal and Health & Safety Code violations. Christine has also successfully represented numerous clients in Title IX proceedings. A devoted advocate for children and juveniles, she is one of the few Bay Area attorneys specializing in Juvenile Delinquency defense. When contacted early, she can represent juveniles upon first contact by the police or probation officers, often settling cases at intake. When appropriate, she has resolved cases with simple informal supervision. She has also successfully litigated detention hearings, pretrial hearings, jusrisdictional hearings, dispositional hearings, home supervision hearings, and wardships with probation at home.
An active member of the legal community, Christine is, or has been, a member of the State Bar of California, The Santa Cruz County Bar Association, and the Bench/Bar Liason for the Santa Cruz County Bar Association. She served on the Santa Cruz County Women Lawyers Association, and as a member of the State Bar Women In Law Committee. Christine co-founded and served on Santa Cruz County Domestic Violence Commission and the Santa Cruz County Child Death Review Team.
